hey everyone. i'm 20, but i like to read some books for teens. what are some of your favorites? one of mine is "killing mr. griffin" by Lois duncan. it's about these kids who plan to kidnap one of their teachers and take him and tie him up in the woods. they mean it as a joke. they leave him there for a little while, not knowing he has heart problems. it's a really good book.

Post 2 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Friday, 03-Dec-2004 23:37:13

Frederick Forsyth and Jack Higgins are very good thriller writers and we certainly enjoyed them when we were teenagers. Also there is the ubiquitous Harry Potter. How about Dick Francis? I read a couple of those when I was a teenager and enjoyed them. Dick Francis is a former jocky and most of his thrillers are based in a horse-racing setting, but there's a lot more to them than horse-racing.

I like comming-of-age stuff like The Catcher in the Rye and Red Sky at Morning. But I must admit I do like those teen girl romance series like The Princess Diaries and the Georgia Nicolson books.

Post 14 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 26-Dec-2004 17:55:45

Yeah I've heard Mockingbird is wonderful. We're reading Of Mice and Men right now, I like it so far.

The Chicken Soup books are great, especially when you're a discussion group leader on a retreat. They usually get people talking.

Sharon Creech, Speak, E. B. White, Gary Paulsen, Outsiders, Harry Potter of course lol, Chicken Soup ... all this is good stuff. By the way finished Of Mice and Men and loved it. Also like to recommend Someone Like You by Sara Dessen ... very good book for girls. Oh I already did, well I can't recommend that one enough. All your suggestions are bringing back such good memories heheh. ... Also for middle schoolers, I just read two good ones: The Misfits and Flipped, very cute, both are good for boys and girls. Also, the Louise Rennison books, the Georgia nicolson series. As I say, the list goes on and on and never ends!

Post 21 by krisme (Ancient Zoner) on Tuesday, 15-Feb-2005 8:20:35

No one mentioned The sisterhood of the Traveling pants or
The Second Summer of The sisterhood. Both fantastic books. I'm re-reading them now and am planning on buying the third one on Cd now that it's out.

Post 22 by dissonance (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Saturday, 26-Feb-2005 13:05:39

Totally check out the Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabbot. I mean, it may sound really childish, but the way she expresses it totally isn't. I also like Driver's Ed, Whatever Happened to Janie, and He Loves me Not by Coony. They're awesome!

Post 23 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 26-Feb-2005 13:27:46

Just checked out one for middle schoolers, hehehe, I don't mind reading books below and above my age range as you can see. This one's clled Claudia and apparently there's one before that called Hello Claudia, and one after called Claudia And Duffy. Very cute books, these.

Post 26 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Wednesday, 18-Apr-2007 10:39:14

If someone hasn't already mentioned this one, I'd recommend the book Speak.

Go on BookShare and look through the Teens section, for all you who have it. There are some truly wonderful ones showing up there recently. Lots of Princess Diaries are finally showing up, too, plus more Laurie Halse Anderson and Sarah Dessen! Woohoo!!!

Post 32 by GoldenPhoenix (Zone BBS Addict) on Wednesday, 21-May-2008 15:26:20

I have a suggestion.
Read "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer. It's like the hottest book out right now.

It's awesome! Fantasy, romance, action, suspense... All rolled into a series of novels! :)

Post 33 by soaring eagle (flying high again!) on Wednesday, 21-May-2008 16:13:30

I liked all the books by s.e. hinton. they are all good.

Post 34 by BrailleNote Nut (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Thursday, 22-May-2008 19:24:42

Down A Dark Hall, by the same author who wrote Killing Mr. Griffin.

Also, A Gift Of Magic, by that same author. A lot of her books are good. I'm truly odd, but the Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events are really really weird, HarryPotter is good too.

Post 35 by DancingAfterDark (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 23-May-2008 1:37:04

Seconding Sarah Dessen, definitely. She's amazing. No particular book, just read them all.
Also Francesca Lia Block, although most of hers are sort of alternative and some are a bit heavier than you might like. The Weetzie Bat series in particular.
I'm a huge S.E. Hinton fan--everything I've read of hers has been wonderful.
Probably others, I'll have to think about it.
Oh, and, I really really want to read the Stephenie Meyer series, if I can ever find it.

Post 36 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Tuesday, 15-Jul-2008 14:47:38

My favorite book by Sarah Dessen is called The Truth About Forever. That book was great. I also read a book called The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things, though I can't remember the author right now. Hmmm, what else, there's this book called Where I Want To Be, by Adele Griffin. Awesome book. And I disagree with the fact that The Perks Of Being a Wallflower should be recommended for boys, I liked that book a lot. It had references to Nirvana, so you can't go wrong. Anyways, if I think of any more, I'll post them.

Post 37 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 4:56:48

Who wrote the book Killing Mr. Griffin?

Post 39 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Monday, 21-Jul-2008 12:10:36
